Dr. Aitor Hornés

Background

Aitor holds a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Salamanca. In 2006, he joined the Institute of Catalysis and Petrochemistry (ICP-CSIC) in Madrid (Spain), where he developed a sound knowledge of heterogenous catalysis, H2 technologies and fuel cells. This led him to obtain a PhD in Applied Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) in 2010. Afterwards, he spent 2 years at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Stuttgart (Germany), working on the development of advanced materials for fuel cells.

Expertise

In 2015, he was granted a Marie Sklodowska Curie fellowship (IEF-MSCA) by the European Commission for the development of micro-fuel cells at the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC). During this period, he participated in 3 European projects expanding his expertise in Si-based technologies and additive manufacturing. He also gained experience in IP protection, entrepreneurship and business development through multiple technical courses. In 2020, he joined Bax & Company as innovation consultant in the field of advanced materials for the mobility sector. He contributes to multistakeholder initiatives, e.g., European Lightweight Cluster Alliance (ELCA) and has experience in raising private and public funds as well as project management.
