Dr. Engy Ghoniem
Post-Doctoral Research Awardee, UNN
Background
Engy Ghoniem is a postdoctoral research fellow with the mechanical and civil engineering department at Northumbria University. She obtained her BSc and MSc in Production – Mechanical Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt, in 2006 and 2012, respectively. At the same time, she got her PhD from Egypt-Japan University for Science and Technology in 2017. After obtaining her PhD, she was recruited as a lecturer within the production Engineering Department, Alexandria University, Egypt. In 2019 – 2022, she had several posts at the University of Southampton, UK, as a postdoctoral and teaching fellow.
Relevant Experience
Engy has a significant experience in Material Science and Smart Materials and a particular interest in Graphene and Carbon-based Materials. In addition, she has good experience in renewable energy, particularly in Supercapacitors, fuel cells and Batteries. Her interest in supercapacitors indirectly led to an interest in the field of electric vehicles and, subsequently, to research activity in energy storage. She worked as a researcher within several EPSRC projects, such as TransEnergy – Road 2 Rail Energy Exchange (R2REE) and UK-India Clean Energy Centre (JUICE) (EP/P003605/1). In 09/2021, she participated as a postdoctoral researcher in the Zero carbon shipping project, cooperating with Ocean Infinity, Aqua Ocean, and Shell international trading and shipping company limited. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher in the SALIENT project and is leading WP2.
