From 15 to 18 April, the SALIENT project took part in the Transport Research Arena Conference (TRA), this year held in Dublin, Ireland.

TRA stands as one of the biggest conferences on transport and mobility, uniting experts worldwide to discuss and explore new ideas and also share insights that can shape the future of transportation research.

During the TRA, the SALIENT project played a vital role, joining discussions and sharing insights to shape the future of the automotive sector and exchange knowledge on the latest updates in the automotive sector.

This year the Conference was under the theme "Advancing Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility”, focusing on challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

The TRA started with a vibrant atmosphere, featuring traditional live music and a warm welcome from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mr Daithi de Rouste.

The SALIENT project actively contributed to various sessions and discussions highlighting innovations and milestones achieved so far in the duration of the project. During the sessions, partners presented effective lightweight strategies, innovative technologies, sustainable design practices, and emerging challenges and opportunities in road safety within the automotive sector.

In the dedicated Poster Board Section, the SALIENT poster was prominently displayed throughout the event, providing attendees with the opportunity to learn more about SALIENT. Many attendees showed interest and sparked enlightening conversations, at the Poster Board and during the TRA session.

On Tuesday, 16 April 2024, Mrs Vanessa Ventosinos Louzao from CTAG, the Project Coordinator of the SALIENT project, participated in the Poster Session 3.3 “Circular economy, LCA”, presenting the findings of the research titled “Eco-Design of Lightweight Structural Components for Electric Vehicles Made of Advanced Materials”. The research focuses on various methods to minimise environmental impact and enhance sustainability while maximising efficiency and safety based on findings within the SALIENT project.

Dr Engy Ghoniem in the Poster Session 5.3 “Transport Safety”

On Wednesday, 17 April 2024, Dr Engy Ghoniem from Northumbria University, the Scientific Coordinator of SALIENT, took part in the Poster Session 5.3 “Transport Safety” and presented the research findings on “Layering tailored Shape Memory Alloys into Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Composites for Enhanced Frontal Impact”, demonstrating the latest advancements in vehicle safety technology. Dr Ghoniem presentation highlighted the innovative research conducted within the SALIENT project and shed light on the potential of advanced materials and technology to significantly enhance vehicle safety standards.

Mrs Friederike L. Kühl in the Technical Session 1.1.12 “Prediction of Road Safety Risks”

On Thursday, 18 April 2024, Mrs Friederike L. Kühl from Etelätär Innovation participated in the Technical Session 1.1.12 “Prediction of Road Safety Risks” and presented the paper “Future Crash Configurations: Analysis of the Impact of Future Vehicles in Mixed Traffic”, shedding light on emerging challenges and opportunities in road safety. In her presentation, Mrs Kühl presented the emerging challenges and opportunities in road safety, particularly in the context of future vehicle technologies, namely their weight and automation level. By examining the potential crash configurations resulting from the integration of advanced vehicles into mixed-traffic environments, she provided valuable insights into the complexities of ensuring safety in the automotive industry.

On the same day, Dr Engy Ghoniem shared insights from the paper titled “Refining Design Approaches and Implementing the Material Matrix Assessment to Foster Structural Components Circularity” in the Technical Session 3.3.4 “Circular Infrastructure Design”, emphasising the importance of sustainable design practices in infrastructure development.
