SALIENT joins European Lightweight Cluster Alliance (ELCA)

SALIENT joins the European Lightweight Cluster Alliance (ELCA), following the active involvement of several SALIENT Consortium partners in it. The alliance is a collaborative initiative to accelerate the uptake of lightweight materials across industries. It unites researchers, manufacturers and industry under one roof and connects partners across a network of 1,300+ corporations, Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). It is the go-to platform for all things lightweight materials – including Research & Development initiatives like the SALIENT project, technology and knowledge transfer and innovation activities across stakeholders and countries.

The Academic and Technical SALIENT Coordinator University of Northumbria at Newcastle (UNN) is the newest member of the alliance and joins BAX & Company as coordinators of ELCA and the Fraunhofer Institute (FRA) in several related Working Groups (WGs):

  • WG 1 – Materials supply and development (chaired by FRA);

  • WG 2 – Characterisation & modelling (chaired by FRA);

  • WG 3 – Design & smart functions (contributed by FRA);

  • WG 4 – Manufacturing (contributed by FRA);

  • WG 6 – Circular economy (contributed by FRA).

Joining forces with ELCA provides the SALIENT Consortium with a wide professional network of related R&D projects, industry contacts and linked initiatives.

The ELCA-SALIENT alliance has already rendered two further alliances - specifically with the AMULET and RIGHTWEIGHT Projects, and which are presented in separate news entries - and is already helping SALIENT partners during the exploitation and market uptake phase of the aforementioned Projects.

Stay tuned for further updates and future collaborations, such as workshops, events and more by subscribing to both the SALIENT and ELCA newsletters, and in addition by following their social media channels (Twitter and LinkedIn).
