SALIENT Goes 39th FISITA 2023 World Congress in Barcelona

The  FISITA World Congress 2023 aimed to serve as a significant platform for international mobility engineers to connect and collaborate in pursuing future transportation solutions, exploring methodology and strategy of mobility, design, production, and utilization of technological advancements.

Under the conference theme of "Lightweight & Advanced Vehicle Platforms," the SALIENT consortium has seized the opportunity to continue their objectives of attending exhibitions and events where a full-length research paper was presented.

The research paper, titled "Advanced Shape Memory Hybrid Composites for Enhancing Crashworthiness", was prepared by the Academic and Scientific Coordinator of SALIENT, Prof. Ahmed Elmarakbi (University of Northumbria), and his team (Dr. Ahmed Elmasry, Dr. Engy Ghoniem, Dr. Wiyao Azoti, Eng. Mohab Elmarakbi, and Prof. Yongqing Fu). The study delved into innovative methods for incorporating shape memory hybrid composites to improve crashworthiness to explore novel techniques for integrating Shape Memory Alloys (SMAs) into composite materials intended for automotive structural components, with an ultimate aim of enhancing safety in collision scenarios. The research commences with a detailed numerical analysis of an SMA hybrid composite material, specifically the NiTi wire-impregnated carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), designed for automotive front-end structure crash boxes. Subsequently, the scope is expanded to evaluate the impact of these pioneering materials on the crashworthiness of entire vehicle structures.

SALIENT's contributions to the FISITA 2023 World Congress exemplify their dedication to advancing automotive safety and technology. Their work has the potential to transform the landscape of vehicle safety, enhancing resilience and protection during accidents.

As the automotive industry undergoes continuous evolution with a strong focus on safety and sustainability, SALIENT's research emerges as a beacon of hope, promising safer and more efficient vehicles in the future. Their unwavering commitment to innovation and engineering excellence is leaving a lasting impression at the FISITA World Congress and beyond.
