Shaping the Future of the Automotive Industry: SALIENT Shines at the 2024 RTR Conference

SALIENT Project Coordinator Raquel Ledo (CTAG) presenting SALIENT at the Session “Crash Protection and Collision Avoidance” at the RTR Conference in Brussels, Belgium.

On 6 February 2024, the SALIENT project showcased its results at the RTR Conference in Brussels, Belgium. This year marks the 7th edition of the RTR Conference, focusing on the achievements of EU-funded projects in road transport, under both Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, organised by the European Commission, European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC), Connected Cooperative Automated Mobility (CCAM) and 2Zero.

The three-day event aimed to provide a holistic view of the European research arena in significant areas of road transport such as Green Vehicles, Urban Mobility, Logistics, Intelligent Transport Systems, Safety, and Automated Road Transport and shed light on the various ways the progress of the European research arena brings benefits to the environment, economy, and European society.

SALIENT was represented by Project Coordinator Raquel Ledo, Head of Materials Innovation Area at the Automotive Technology Centre of Galicia (CTAG), during the session “Crash protection and collision avoidance” moderated by Anca Pasca from CINEA & Peter Urban from the Institute for Automotive Engineering of RWTH Aachen University.

SALIENT, SAFE-UP & V4SAFETY project representatives.

Raquel Ledo highlighted the recent developments and presented SALIENT’s approach, the eco-design methodology applied at the Front End Structure (FES) with a holistic Virtual Development Process.

Additionally, the main objectives of SALIENT were mentioned, focusing on future-proof light vehicle designs, with increased compatibility with mixed traffic and better preparation for crashes and collisions.

Within the same panel session, Núria Parera from Applus+ IDIADA, (which is also a member of the SALIENT Consortium) represented the findings of the SAFE-UP project and Sytze Kalisvaart from TNO highlighted the importance of the V4SAFETY project.

On the following day, Raquel Ledo, presented the project results of the predecessor ALMA project in the session on Materials and Production Processes”, where Lucia Barbu from CIMNE showcased the recent results from the Fatigue4Light project.

At the end of each session, the audience had the opportunity to pose questions to the speakers and elaborate further on the impact of these novel concepts on the future of the transport sector.

Over the three-day event, participants had the opportunity to attend various sessions, engage with experts and policymakers and foster knowledge exchange.
